With the change in season and a lighter teaching schedule, I have been itching to try out some new workouts and learn from the uber talented trainers and fitness pros in the Washington, D.C. area. Partially because the first class I tried fell on a Tuesday, and also because it had a great sound to it, I decided to start #TryItTuesdays to commit to trying out a new workout every Tuesday, as long as my schedule and available classes permit! I hope you get inspired to try a new workout or anything new on a Tuesday, or any day of course! If you do, leave me a comment below to tell me all about it!
For my first #TryItTuesday, I finally had a chance to check out a friend’s new Silent Disco Bootcamp class, held right outside of the U.S. Capitol building. Several nights each week, MadFitDMV hosts these “silent disco” workouts where everyone in class gets their own set of light up headphones to zone out to the playlist and hear to the coach’s directions for the workout. I was satisfied with just wearing my headphones and watching everyone run around glowing in the dark, but the actual workout itself was a great bonus.
Coach Montavious “Tazer Tay” is a fitness freak who does two-a-days like it’s nothing, so I knew his class would be pretty tough. Once we got our headphones set up and I warmed up with a personal dance break, we got right into the workout with music in our hears. Coach Tay first put us through a killer, why-am-I-already-sore, warm-up and then led us through various strength and plyometric moves around the gorgeous reflection pool fountain. Even though I wanted to shed a tear from the pain, the view of the Capitol lit up under a full moon made it all worth it. After the first half of class we had definitely done 100 push ups, and those innocent laps around the fountain probably added up to a mile at least! But our coach kept us calm and encouraged, and I found that (trying to) milly rock for most of the night helped to keep my muscles good and loose.
My favorite part of the workout by far was a stair circuit, where we did walking lunges to the stairs, then squat-jumped our way up the stairs, only to do more lunge walks between each set of stairs. My legs and glutes were on fire but as we all know, no pain no gain! To top that off we did burpees at the top of the stairs before repeating two more brutal rounds, but I can’t even lie, that circuit did put me in my happy place. 🙂
Overall, my first Silent Disco Bootcamp was the perfect class to kick off #TryItTuesday! Complete with a great coach, a perfect class size (there are only 10 slots), a creative concept with the personal headphones, and a tough workout that left me good and sore for days after the workout. It didn’t help that this was my first real workout since I left for my epic Greece trip last month! I would highly recommend anyone in the DMV area to check out this class before the weather gets too cold. And tell them I sent you!
Have to tried the Silent Disco Bootcamp yet? What else should I add to my #TryItTuesday list? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time,
Keep it moving!
